      <image:title>Home - Finish</image:title>
<image:caption>When the construction of the piece is complete, the job is roughly half done. All negative surface features such as knots and cracks are filled and sanded flush. Surfaces are meticulously sanded in a 3 step process to produce the smoothest surface that wood is capable of. Finish is applied in innumerable coats over a period of 1-2 weeks. Coats are allowed to cure, then are sanded again to combat raising grain and atmospheric dust. By the end of the process, tabletops are impeccably smooth to the touch, easy to clean, and will last generations. Large amounts of epoxy/resin are eschewed for the warmth and ductility of absorbed finishes. I don’t want to turn the wood into a piece of plastic.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - Composition</image:title>
<image:caption>Many woods themselves are not homogeneous materials, containing not only patterns in the grain but different colors between sapwood and heartwood. The layout and material selection of each piece is carefully considered, to bring these elements to the eye utilizing their natural forms and complimentary elements. Each piece is addressed as a work of art, a collaboration between the tree and the carpenter.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - Quality</image:title>
<image:caption>Interlocking joinery creates furniture that wants to stand up, rather than being forced to stand by screws and glue. This creates items that will last indefinitely, with no worry of the commonly seen antique failures of screw pull-out or cracking glue. These will last for generations, if not centuries, and will lack the wobble and cheapness of the common hairpin leg. 100% wood option: While glue is often still used to improve fit and reduce wobble, pieces can be specially constructed to omit this all together. In these cases, additional time is taken to produce fits down to .005 inches, and joints are stabilized in all axis of movement.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Sustainablility</image:title>
<image:caption>No heavy equipment is used, eliminating the damage caused by loaders and log trucks. These large Maple slabs had to be milled with a chainsaw and carted out by hand. They weigh up to 500lb each.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Sustainablility</image:title>
<image:caption>After drying for a year or more, the slabs are flattened. Most will have taken on a twist, requiring lots of time with an assortment of tools of my own design. One of these wild slabs can easily have 4 hours of labor into it before it can even be measured for use in a piece of furniture.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Sustainablility</image:title>
<image:caption>It sometimes feels like half of every project is surface finishing. Requiring numerous progressions of sanding, filling in knots and voids, and inumerable coats of lacquer. Getting a durable surface that displays the grain of the wood; the years and colors and forms of the trees life, takes both passion and patience.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Three years ago… This was one of the first trees I had milled myself. It caught my eye while I was helping some family chop up storm-blown trees for firewood. I split this curve and was immediately captivated by what I had found. I didn’t know what I would make, tow end tables? Fortunately I had a long time to figure it out…</image:caption>

<image:caption>A “hybrid laminate” construction was eventually sorted out. Thin strips were steamed and clamped to the forming to cool. They would take the needed shape readily, but had some spring back after cooling. Once cool, glue was spread between the layers and they were re-clamped to the form. The end result was a strong hickory bow with no spring back. The designing could continue!</image:caption>
